“Overall Equipment Effectiveness”

In an ideal factory, the machines operate 100 % of the time, at 100 % of their speed and produce quality of 100 %. Unfortunately, in practice this rarely happens. The difference between the ideal and practice is loss. If you determine and visualise this loss, you have available the basis for effective improvement. OEE is very direct and powerful in localising loss. Because of this, a successful improvement process frequently starts with measuring the OEE.

More information about measuring OEE can be found on our OEE Toolkit website.
